MEET THE YOUTUBE EXPERTWho Is Derral Eves?
Derral Eves is one of the most sought after video marketing experts online today.
He was recently the keynote speaker at our ‘Live the Dream’ event in Austin, TX, and he absolutely stole the crowd. That’s what a guy who’s responsible for 33 BILLION Views can do when he talks about video marketing!
He’s got one of the top ‘How-To’ channels on YouTube.
Beginning on YouTube in 2005, he now owns a company that focuses on audience development, growth, and monetization from YouTube video & paid media strategies.
Some of his biggest clients include: Amazon, Red Bull, ESPN, Volkswagon, Adobe, Google, and YouTube (Yes he gets hired to teach them about their own company!)

Why You Need to Listen to Derral Eves
We don't have to say much here, just take a look at these stats:
- He’s YouTube Certified
- Holds 5 Adwords Certifications
- He’s Google Analytics Certified
- He’s earned 21 gold play buttons (which means he helped 21 separate channels start from nothing... and get over a million subscribers EACH!)
- He’s gotten 19 Billion views over on Facebook as well! (YouTube isn’t the only place he’s dominating.)
Generating $45 Million in Sales in 12 Months
No we’re still not done? Ever heard of the squatty potty or unicorn poop? It’s a product that might have a crazy silly name, but Derral worked with the Harmon Brothers for Squatty Potty on their Unicorn Poop YouTube commercial...
And that video went on to produce $45 Million in Sales in 12 Months.
So pay attention because this guy knows what he’s talking about.
Why You Should Use Online VideoVideo Content is Mandatory for Todays Online Marketer
Are you considering trying to move forward to build your business... without using video? Maybe because you fear being on video, or it seems like hard work, or you can’t do it?
If so Derral has a great question for you. (And a great point to show you the huge mistake you’re making!) What is the most watched program in the U.S. every year single year?
The Grammy’s?
The Oscars?
The Kardashians?
The Super Bowl?
If you answered the Super Bowl you’re close.
It’s actually the Halftime Show of the Super Bowl. This portion of the biggest game of the year gets more people watching it than anything else on TV... ALL YEAR, EVERY YEAR!
But here's the kicker...

40 Super Bowl Halftime Shows Happen Every Day on YouTube Alone!
If you multiply the amount of people that watch the halftime show times 40 every single day, that’s how much video is viewed on YouTube DAILY!
Today...82 million americans will watch 2.1 Billion Videos (Just today only on YouTube)
This month...188 Million Americans are going to watch 335 Videos (Per Person!)
And here’s some interesting FACTS according to Forbes magazine.
- If information was produced in text or through video, when given a choice -- 68% of executives would rather watch the video
- 72% of people are more likely to buy a product online after watching video
- 80% of people can recall a video ad they’ve viewed in the past 30 days
Bottom Line: Video Is Mandatory!
At least if you don’t want to be completely left in the dust by the people who ARE using video it’s mandatory.
It simply MUST be in your arsenal regardless of what you’re promoting. Online video is absolutely transforming the way we discover information via the internet, and more and more it’s getting impossible to avoid.
And why would you avoid that massive of an audience anyway?
COMPANION VIDEOWatch the Video Below to Meet Derral Eves, and See WHY You Should Be Using Video!
VIDEO MARKETING STRATEGY8 Questions You MUST Ask Before You Get Started with ANY Video Content You Create
So now that you understand WHY you should start using video marketing to grow your business, let’s jump into how to do it effectively!
Derral Eves says one of the biggest mistakes that people make is not thinkin about the purpose of their video before picking up the camera to record. Preparation is key if you want to do this effectively.
The more preparation and planning, and the better you follow a formula, the better content that you’ll create. Content that engages with people and causes them to take action means you get leads and sales!

QUESTION #1:
Why Are you Creating the Content?
You must be specific about the purpose of the video you’re about to create. Furthermore, each video should have it’s own specific purpose.
There are 4 Purposes for Content Online...
- Building Awareness
- Influence Consideration (video is the most powerful way to influence someone to consider a decision)
- Driving Online or Offline Sales
- Growing Loyalty (which means re-engaging with your community, and touching them in a way that causes them to remain interested in what you're actually doing.)
You're always falling into one of these 4 buckets above with your content. And you should know which you’ll be using for each specific video, before you even think about hitting the record button.
Question #2:
Who Is Your Competition?
Derral Eves has an interesting take on competition. He says you should ask the question: “Are they really my competitors?”
This might be different than what you’ve heard by others who want you to just go out and beat the pants off your competition. This is because in Derral Eves’ eyes, we live in a world of collaboration.
When you think in this way, you realize that certain people have talents and assets they can use, and collaborating instead of just competing can be beneficial to everyone!
Question #3:
Who Are you Trying to Reach with Your Content?
Knowing your audience is the key to ALL good marketing and content creation.
Who's the individual that you're trying to reach? Derral does this in an interesting and obviously effective way as well. He simply thinks of someone that he knows personally, and asks "would they engage with this content?”
Essentially he’s using people he knows as his Avatar.
For instance if he's working with a client who's got an audience of young men (teenagers), he'll utilize his own 4 sons to see how they react to the content that he creates videos around.
If they like it, then he knows there are other young men who will no doubt like it too!

To get you started with defining your target market, you can download this Customer Avatar Worksheet that should get the mind working on figuring out exactly who your content should be targeting. These are just a few of the questions you should be asking, but once you get these down, you are well on your way!
Question #4:
Who Is Your Core Audience and Your Target Demographic?
Once you understand who you’re trying to reach, then you get a better idea of who your core audience will be. You have both a core audience and core viewer, so you’ll want to pay close attention to see what the similarities are between those two groups are.
Question #5:
What VALUE Will Your Content Add for Consumers
Here’s where the rubber meets the road with your videos. If you understand the concept of attraction marketing that MLSP is built around, then you know that f you put out content and videos with no value, you're wasting your time.
Value is what creates attraction, where people see YOU as the expert they’ve been looking for. No value therefore, means that people move on to your competitors videos, until they find someone who IS giving them value.
3 Simple Ways to Be Valuable to Your Audience...
Which of these things will your content do for your audience?
- Inspire
- Educate
- Or Entertain
Those are the only ways that someone can see value in your content!
So you must be very specific in creating content that hits on as many of those three outcomes as possible. If you make sure your content is valuable, and if you can get one person dialed in, then you can find similar audiences, and that's how things grow.
Because when someone finds value, they feel compelled to SHARE! And of course that’s what you want, and that’s how things go viral!
Question #6:
What Is Your Core Message and Tone for Your Content?
Tonality and messaging is the key to getting your content to a level of true engagement. In other words, it’s what will move the viewer to actually watch the whole video!
We'll give you the formula for that soon in this post, don’t worry! Just know that the wrong tone can be distracting from your message, and cause them to click away.
Question #7:
How Are you Going to Deliver the Content for Maximum Reach?
Your content must resonate with the platform you’re on. While YouTube is the champion of videos, it may not be the best place to find and engage with YOUR audience.
They may be on Facebook or Instagram. Of course you want the biggest reach possible, so you don’t want to ignore YouTube. But you may want to make your main focus another platform in the beginning. It all depends on your niche and your audience.
Question #8:
What Does Success Look Like?
You should definitely have a goal in mind with your videos, to determine if your video was a success.
Of course, real success means getting people to buy your product, or join your business opportunity. Your video may not get them all the way there, but should be the primer to make that more likely to happen down the road.
This means that you have to think of the other aspects of your funnel. For instance, if you’re driving traffic from your videos, but aren’t getting buyers once people get to your site, then you must maximize your website, your landing page, your email campaigns etc.
COMPANION VIDEOWatch the Video Below Where Derral Goes Over the 8 Questions You Must Ask Yourself Before Creating Your Video Content In Detail!....
The 6 C's for Video Marketing Success…
With over 13 years of creating YouTube videos for some of the biggest companies in the world, Derral has come up with an easy way to predictably create a successful video marketing strategy.
These are the 6 C’s which will make it easy for you to duplicate success over and over again with your video marketing, just like it has for Derral and his students.
The 6 C’s Are...
- Content
- Connection
- Consistency
- Community
- Call to Action
- Collaberation
Content is king of course. So instead of trying to cover everything in this one post, Derral focused on content for our community...and how to make your content amazing and as he puts it... "not suck!"
The Video Creation Formula Designed Specifically for the MLSP Community

SECTION 1:
The Hook (The First 3 to 5 Seconds of Your Video)
The hook of your video is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the part where you quickly grab their attention, suck them in, and get them to lean forward and want to hear more!
The good news is that if they're hooked in the first 3 to 5 seconds, then they’ll generally stay for 32 more seconds after that.
Your hook can be as simple as stating your topic.
Today I’m going to show you how to _______.
Again this should be kept short and bried, and trying to make it any longer could get people to leave.
SECTION 2:
The Intro and the Set-Up (The Next 25 to 30 Seconds)
Once you’ve grabbed their attention, the Intro and Set-Up simply gets them ready for what's going to happen in your video. Why should they stick around any longer? What will they get out of it? What will they learn?
If you get them past the intro and set up, they'll stay for another 60 seconds.
SECTION 3:
Branding (The Next 2 to 7 Seconds)
You want something short and simple here. An image or a tagline, something that brands YOU so people think of YOU every single time. Derral likes 3 to 4 seconds max on this as far as time goes.
A great example of this branding is if you think of NBC. They’re got the three chimes ding, diing, diiing...and when you hear it...you know it’s NBC!
You know that we’re very big on branding here at MLSP! So while Derral says this part is optional, we believe it’s extremely important to include!
SECTION 4:
The Re-Engage (Next 20 to 45 Seconds)
At this point you’ve got them hooked, they know what they’re going to learn, and now you’ve got YOUR brand in there. Now you want to just quickly re-engage (yes attention spans truly are that short!)
Give them a little MORE detail about exactly what your video will be about, maybe tease a big point you’ll make, and show them what they'll get from watching it. You’re simply pulling them right back in by showing them even more benefits they’re about to receive.
Example from Derral Eves: "Okay guys, now you know we have videos coming out every week, and this video is talking about the 5 things you need to know about YOUR TOPIC!"
Very simple and kills two birds with one stone. It re-engages them on your video, and engages them to your community.
Now for the really good news. If you get them through this, they'll pretty much finish your entire video (depending on length). This is because you've done a great job at creating some build up.
SECTION 5:
The Content - (Time Can Vary Depending On Your Audience)
At this point, it’s time to give them what you told them you were going to give them. This is where you give value, and build credibility and trust with the viewer.
How long should the content portion be? You must simply know your audience. This can be variable depending on the value you’re adding, and depending on your relationship with your audience. .
Keep in mind that people lose interest in increments of 1 ½ minutes.. So every 1 ½ minutes you’ll want to quickly re engage to keep attention.
Tip: Write down and keep in front of you exactly what you'll be talking about to avoid rambling.
Give them what they came for quickly, and get to the point. This is most important with viewers from cold traffic, who are not used to how you do things yet!
SECTION 6:
The Content Wrap (This is Super Short)
Try to re-engage quickly. "Okay these are the 5 elements, is there one that Im' missing? Go ahead and put it in the comments!"
At this point, people know that you're wrapping up, and so you get to the next part as quickly as possible.
SECTION 7:
Engage Viewer
This is where you quickly pull them back in, so they don’t click away. They know you’re almost done, but you want to get them to your call-to-action.
SECTION 8:
The Verbal CTA (Call to Action)
You must tell people what to do, or they likely will not do anything. Fussy humans. This where you verbally tell them to subscribe, to visit the URL in the description, or whatever action you want them to take.
Not just by using text on the screen, but verbally telling them what to do next.
SECTION 9:
The Close (Your Catch Phrase)
The close is quick, and just some departing words that you wither say all the time, or some catch phrase that you might use. Here’s an example from one of Derral’s own channels.
"This channel's about helping you become more successful, so go out and have a successful day!"
So there you have it. That’s the video creation formula, with a proven breakdown, designed specifically for the MLSP community based on they type of content that we should be putting out there to get the highest results.

Tips for Video Headlines & Video Descriptions on Youtube
Tips for Video Headlines
Always think search and algorithm first. Your keywords should be in the beginning of the title of your video. Derral Eves uses a keyword research tool like TubeBuddy to figure out what people are actively searching for.
Tips for Video Descriptions
- Put your links above the fold.
- Add one or two sentences before the link.
- Don’t use transcriptions, just give 2 or 3 paragraph overview of what your video is about.
From a meta-data searchable context, your title and your description are your most important assets in search, especially when it comes to Google.
