HOW TO RANK YOUTUBE VIDEOS FAST3 Insanely Easy Steps to Rank Youtube Videos FAST (Even for a Beginner)
In this article we are going to show you how to rank YouTube videos fast on the YouTube search results.
If you want more traffic, views, subscribers, leads, and sales... you’ll be hard pressed to find a source better than YouTube. It is after all the #2 search engine on all of the internet, second of course only to Google! Which means there’s a vast audience of people waiting for YOUR content.
Ranking videos has actually gotten easier believe it or not. It’s all a matter of how you create your videos and the things that you do afterward to give them the best possible opportunity to rank.
Very few people are better at this than the video marketing king himself Mark Harbert.
Today we’ll give you action steps, straight from Mr. Harbert himself, to start ranking your videos higher on YouTube (even #1) for highly competitive keywords and topics.
STEP 1Keyword Research for YouTube SEO
Keyword research is the vital first step to ranking videos. In doing keyword research, you will be finding words that people will type into the search box to find YOUR videos online.
For example, if you're in network marketing, then you might want to rank for ‘Network Marketing’ types of terms (ex. "How to get MLM leads"). If you are selling widgets, you may want to rank for "Best Widget Review" However YouTube can be used for any niche you’re in!
The idea is to simply find keywords that are getting searches every month, and create videos around those terms. Basically you just want to put your videos right in front of the traffic that is already flowing.

Keyword research is easier and faster than ever before now. If you were to rewind to just a couple of years ago, you’d find yourself over at the Google Keyword Planning tool. That process required quite a bit more work and effort than the tools you’re about to see.
We can of course thank the video marketing innovators like Mark Harbert for finding and testing these tools for us!
The ‘Keywords Everywhere’ Tool
‘Keywords Everywhere’ is a magical browser extension seemingly sent to us from the internet marketing Gods!
You’ll be able to quickly find tons of keywords for your niche. In ten minutes you could have enough keywords for a month’s worth of marketing videos. AND IT'S FREE!
How to quickly install the Keywords Everywhere Extension (Chrome or Firefox)
- Go to https://KeywordsEverywhere.com you’ll come to a page that looks like this…
- Hit the Install button for either Chrome or Firefox
- You’ll receive an email with your API key, and a link and instruction to enter the key for your browser - Simply click on the API Key link in the email and they'll walk you through the rest of the setup. Super easy!
That’s it. Installing will take you about a minute, and you’ll be ready to find all your best keywords for video content.
How does it work?
You’ll simply type in a broad keyword on Google, and under the search field you’ll automatically see the number of searches per month for that keyword. Looks like this…
But that’s not nearly all this extension does.
It also finds other terms that google deems related to the keyword that you've used. Those will display in two spots. Both on the right hand side of the search results, and just like any search you do will be at the bottom of the results.
The difference now is that it gives you the number of searches for each term, plus other stuff we’ll get to in a second.

This new section will show up on the side of your browser after a search with some great keyword ideas

Keywords Everywhere will also add search data information to the 'Related Search Suggestions' at the bottom of the browser
What Are Those Stars Next to the Keywords?
The key of course is to build a list of keywords. And that’s exactly what the stars are for. You click the stars and it adds your keywords directly to a list for you.

Warning: Strong language coming for the faint of heart!
So Mark Harbert has another favorite keyword tool he uses, and it’s called...um… ‘Keyword Shitter’ (Hey we don’t name ‘em, we just use ‘em 😉
The idea is that you add your main keyword, and well, it dumps a TON of related keywords out the other end for you to use. These are words that people are searching for each month on Google and YouTube.
COMPANION VIDEOWe’ll Let Mark Harbert Explain the Rest About This Tool in the Video Below!
Despite the name, it’s a very handy tool that will give you tons of new keyword ideas for your niche in no time flat!
What’s really cool is that it integrates with Keywords Everywhere, and you can click the stars and add them to your keywords lists as you scan through to find the good ones. They’ll go right into “My Favorite Keywords” in the dropdown for Keywords Everywhere!
There are some other amazing tools that also integrate with 'Keywords Everywere' like Answer the Public, however there are also amazing forums and question sites that will allow you to come up with some great keywords - DIRECTLY FROM YOUR TARGET MARKET! What’s a Good Search Volume for Keywords?
One of the struggles people have when getting started, is knowing if a keyword is “good enough” to create a video around.
Of course there’s really nobody better to get video marketing advice from than Mark Harbert. Mark says that 100+ searches per month is a good starting point.
At the same time, don’t be afraid to go bigger. Because when you learn to create videos the way he’ll show you in just a minute, your chances of ranking increases greatly.
The most important thing is that you get started.
STEP 2Create YouTube Videos Your Audience Will LOVE
Once you’ve found some keywords, you’ll want to start creating videos around those keywords. You can’t rank a video if you don’t have a video to rank.
Now here’s an area where video marketing and YouTube have changed substantially.
In the old days video quality wasn’t quite as important. You probably saw them. Low quality videos from cell phones, with bad audio, and shaky pictures were everywhere.
But now…

YouTube Wants (and Rewards) High Quality Videos!
The reason is simple. YouTube is going BIG TIME! They’re in it to win it against the big cable companies now.
New membership options like ‘YouTube TV’ and ‘YouTube Premium’ (formerly ‘YouTube Red’) means that they’re moving into the markets to pull users from cable companies and sites like Netflix.
And in this transition, they’re rewarding videos that are higher quality, and keep people on the page longer.
Their goal is to keep visitors on the site longer, so your job is to simply give them what they want.
So there are a few things that YOU can do, to make sure that YOUR videos are rewarded as well.
Tips to Give YouTube Exactly What They Want With Your Videos...
- Create Longer Videos
You must now create videos that are 10 minutes or longer! (Emphasis being LONGER) The reason is what we’ve already spoken about. YouTube wants people staying on their network longer! So longer videos makes sense. - Create High-Resolution Videos
Bad video quality is not an option anymore. YouTube wants high resolution. Therefore recording in 4K will get you rewarded with better rankings. Note: This doesn’t mean you have to go out and buy an expensive camera. In fact most newer smartphones have amazing cameras built right in now. - Use High-Quality Audio
Believe it or not, YouTube knows when you have low quality audio. Having sub-par audio will get you pushed DOWN in the rankings (not the way we’re looking to go!) Make your audio as high-quality as you can. Your viewers will like your videos more as well.We recently held a 30 day Business Transformation & Leadership challenge to help people create their very first digital courses online. Meaning we were teaching people that have never created videos before, how to create their first online courses! We spent an entire week on how to upgrade the quality (video and audio) of your videos.Getting an external microphone doesn't have to be expensive, but whatever you invest will be WELL WORTH IT! You can see some of our recommended microphone options here.
- YouTube Wants Engaging Content
Again it all goes back to the fact that they want people sticking around longer. View time is HUGE, and you’ve got to do everything to make that happen.
Your job is to keep the interest of the viewer so they stick around. With our shorter attention spans that means that it’s a bit harder, but you can do it with some simple tricks.
COMPANION VIDEOBelow is an Example of a High-Quality Video from Mark Harbert!...
Here’s some of what he uses to hold the interest of the viewer…
- Professional Graphics
Mark switches graphics often to hold the viewer's attention. In fact you can almost say it looks like a professional news broadcast at times. - Segues into different topics
As you could see, Mark uses segues in between separate subjects. These might be a quick screen page, a graphic, or even just a simple question. All just to keep the viewer interested. - Background Music
Background music holds people’s interest and makes your videos look extremely professional. Match the different types of music to the mood of your video. (YouTube has royalty free music that you can choose from when creating your video.)
What If I’m Not Good at Video Editing?
These days getting your videos spruced up a bit for prime time on YouTube can be much easier and cheaper than you might think.
Services like Animoto these days have a very small learning curve. You could figure it out fairly quickly, and get better as you go. And it’s a skill you’ll have for life.
Or using a site like Fiverr or Upwork, you can find professionals to do it very inexpensively. It’s definitely worth it to spend a few extra bucks to get even simple edits done that might make you stand out a little bit!

The 4 Part Video Creation Formula to Rank Videos on YouTube FAST!
Too many people stay stuck not knowing what to make videos about, or what to say in their videos. This will cause you to procrastinate, or avoid getting started all together, and we want to avoid that at all costs.
Luckily Mark Harbert has a proven formula that works like crazy.
This formula will save you a ton of headache, as well as help you reach the end goal of keeping people on your videos longer!
NOTE: We have updated this next section based on research and data we are seeing from youtube. Starting with the problem, or the 'hook' - or quickly describing what they are going to get from watching the video should come before any introduction.
Part #1: Ask a Question or State the Problem You Are Addressing (Based on Pain Points)
Start with the HOOK! Get people to understand what they will get out of watching your video and WHY they should stay on to watch it.
Questions are powerful. They demand attention. They open the mind of your viewer to be ready for your content.
A question will also agitate the problem that your viewer is having (the reason they came to your video in the first place.) This is important because your video is almost meant to be the scratch to an itch. An answer to a problem or struggle.
Some Quick Examples?
“Are you struggling with ________?”
“Are you desperate to know how to _________ ?”
“Are looking for info on _________ because…?”
You get the idea. Just throw your question out there, and segue into scratching the itch.
NOTE: Between the problem and the intro is where you would want to add a quick logo sting/bump if you have one. KEEP IT SHORT. It should just be a way to reiterate who it is they are watching.
Part #2: The Intro
The intro is exactly what it sounds like. You simply introduce yourself and let the viewer know who you are, and where you’re from.
"Hi this is [Your Name] from [Your Website, Company, etc]”
It’s really as simple as that. But it will pull people in and hook them into your video quickly.
Part #3: Your Content
This is where you deliver the content that your viewer clicked on your video to see. And you want to deliver big time here, because this is where you build that essential know, like, and trust with your audience.
This is the solution to the problem they were looking to remedy. You want to give actual value and reward your viewers for watching YOUR video . Teach them whatever it is they came to learn (based around the keyword of course!) .
Part #4: The Call to Action
You created a video for a reason. Most likely to get leads for your business. Therefore you don’t want your viewer to watch and then just leave without taking an action.
But most people will never take an action unless told to do so. Your call to action should tell your viewer exactly what they should do next. Simply lead people to where you want them to go!
Quick ‘Call-to-Action Tip’
You don’t want to drive people away from YouTube prematurely.
You obviously want the lead, but you also want to give YouTube what they want.
Remember, YouTube’s goal is to keep people on their site as long as possible. The longer you keep them there, the more love YouTube is going to give YOU with your videos.
So instead of leading people away and to one of your external pages, you may want to suggest that they go to another video of yours, which is information that pertains to something you're promoting.
Google makes this easy with “Cards”. They slide in and allow your viewer to click on the card to go to another another video. You saw that Mark Harbert did that in his video above.
Find the happy balance where you drive traffic to YOUR sites, but also gives people a reason to stay on YouTube if they want.

STEP 3Optimize Your Video for High YouTube Rankings

Now that you’ve made a video, you’ve got to take some steps to get it ready to rank in YouTube search.
The good part is that this used to be much harder and more tedious than it is now. By making quality videos, and giving YouTube what they want... you’ve already done a lot of the heavy lifting.
Where using SEO (search engine optimization) was a huge factor a few years ago (much like ranking in Google search was), it’s not really as important these days.
There are still some elements of SEO that are essential today. Using your keyword or phrase in the Title and description of your video is of course never going to change. You want to do that.
But according to Mark Harbert, there’s another place to use keywords that’s become quite relevant these days.
Tags to Boost Your Rankings
Tags have become highly relevant to boost rankings. YouTube puts a great emphasis on the tags you add to your videos. These seem to be a major factor on what gets ranked.
Luckily finding tags to add to your videos is easier than ever with a service called ‘Tube Buddy!’
TUBE BUDDY
Much like Keywords Everywhere, Tube Buddy is a handy little browser extension, that acts as a bit of a sneaky keyword spy tool. You can find it, and install it at http://www.tubebuddy.com.
Tube Buddy essentially gives you the analytics for ANY video that you pull up, right next to the video. (It really will become your best buddy!)
In one glance you get
- A summary of the videos stats (Views, comments, and likes)
- SEO Analytics
- Social Sharing Analytics (Facebook Likes, Reddit Upvotes, and Twitter Mentions)
- AND...the TAGS that the video is using!
So as you can see it’s a handy little spy tool that will allow you to basically see what your competition is doing correctly with their videos. Then YOU can simply do them too.
See a Video's Search Rankings for Each Tag They’re Using
You can see the tags that a video is using, but you can also see the search rankings that the videos are getting for each of those tags. When you research your competition, you can simply hit the “Copy” button, and with one click add their tags to your video.
Those little green boxes indicate the search rankings for each keyword.
Once you hit copy, you can add these keywords to your clipboard, and they’re already formatted correctly to simply add to YOUR video. Spying on competition has never been this easy.
Tag Explorer
You can go even deeper with Tube Buddy’s ‘Tag Explorer’ which allows you to type in a keyword, and it will give you suggestions of top keywords that have to do with your main keyword. You can simply copy those keywords as well! (Note: You get more suggestions with the paid version of this tool!)
You’ll definitely want to install this awesome tool and start spying on your competition immediately.
NOTE: Don't forget about the importance of creating a great thumbnail for your youtube video! Youtube expert Derral Eves says that between worrying about your title, your hook, your actual video content, or even your description...Out of all of those you should spend more time on your thumbnail than anything else.
