“Is this for real?” was my exact reaction when I first saw the notification from MLSP around this honor to be selected as Member of the Month. I am forever grateful for MLSP and what abundance it has brought into my business and life. Having initially been in S.O.S (or Shiny Object Syndrome) mode for the first few years of my online journey in business, it became apparent that my lack of results in this industry were not due to the lack of information or that there was a “secret magic bullet” strategy that I just needed to know first, it was because of me and my lack of consistent and persistent action.
Having been an accomplished IT professional for the past 20 years, I was not a stranger to the online world, however when it came to online marketing and business, I definitely didn't have a clue around fundamental concepts and things like what a blog was, or what a capture page or sales funnel was. Like many others, the things that initially caught my interest (making more money, having more time freedom, being my own boss, etc.) were desires that were always in my mind, but until 2014 when I finally took action, it was just that, only a desire.
While I made six figures a year as an IT professional, it came at a great expense, my time. Often times, I would have to work 12-15 hours per day because while we would work the normal 9-5 hours like everyone else, however we also would have to work after hours to do server and network maintenance that we could not do during the day due to having to bring systems down to perform such upgrades and maintenance.
When working as an IT engineer, we were often trained to master a technology before being offered the opportunity to deploy or implement this skillset in the real world to minimize mistakes for the company. I also found that as I climbed the corporate ladder in my profession, I began to realize that being a manager or director was not the path I thought it would be and quickly realized the only way to achieving the time and financial freedom that I'd been desiring for so long, was to start an online business that allowed me to be the boss without working long hours.
I started my journey around achieving this in 2014 and heavily invested in myself with courses, webinar trainings, etc. trying to learn everything before DOING (keyword there) anything so I would “fully” understand the business. Having that mindset definitely delayed real results in my business and one thing I can say is it definitely does not serve you to try and master everything before you start. My advice to you, based on my personal experiences, just learn one thing, then more importantly, implement and take action on that one thing you learn consistently until you succeed with it before moving on to the next area of the business.
One major breakthrough for my business happened when I started to attend live events and mastermind with true 6 & 7 figure online entrepreneurs in person. Through those relationships formed from live events is where I learned about MLSP and the principals that shape and define the concept of attraction marketing. Up to this point, most of the training I received around building a business online were similar to what many network marketers and home business owners are told, things like the need to pitch/sell to anyone with a pulse, pitch to your family and friends, spam your business opportunity links across social media, etc. and those methods just did not vibe with me as being a viable way of promoting my business.
Once I started applying the concepts and principals taught from those live events, as well as within MLSP, I finally began to not only see real results in my business, but found myself becoming more ‘hunted’ rather than the ‘hunter’ role that many struggling entrepreneurs see themselves stuck in. One key area I found to be very effective and one of the quickest ways to a sale for me was to have conversations (yes, I mean real human conversations) with your target audience (it could be one-on-one online/via phone or one-to-many on a video conference/webinar) and consistently serve that audience selflessly with real value and solutions that help solve their pain points, rather than just to pitch and sell your business opportunity to everyone within a 3 foot radius.
