First off can I just say how grateful and how blessed I am to be able to share my story with you. Being Member of the month was actually a huge goal of mine that I can now proudly check off my list. So thank you Brian, Todd, Norbert, all the amazing leaders and the MLSP community for all you do to make what we have here so special.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Jen Johnson. I currently live in Anaheim Hills, CA
As a wife and mother of two I have always had the mindset that I was set out to do more than just work the typical 9-5 cubical job. I am a musician so I tend to be more of a creative thinker. I know the day job works for most, but it was not working for me. I was meant to do more and it’s been a journey.
Originally from northern California, I moved away from home at the age of 18 in 2001 to pursue a career in music. My father has been a musician my entire life so it was in my blood. I spent most of my high school years in a recording studio.
After meeting some amazing musicians on a senior grad trip to Disneyland I knew they could help me get started in the industry. So I made my way down South. I was very new to the industry professionally and very green, but I wanted to become more heavily involved working with different bands and by 2007 I even put out my own original album and was actually gracing the Disneyland stage myself.
The music scene actually started to take off pretty quickly for me and I started making pretty good money doing it part time and was even able to go part time at my job as a bank teller. The struggle with that was I never knew when the next gig was going to be and unfortunately female vocalists do have a shelf life. So I needed to figure out my long term goal.
In 2004 I ended up moving over to work at a credit union as a “Member Service Representative”. I Worked there for a couple years, was still steady with singing and that’s when I met my husband and I was also introduced to network marketing by a co-worker.
Between the bank and free lancing with different bands I was learning the typical ins and outs of how to be successful running my own home based business. I made a few sales, hosted lots of parties, but it wasn’t really taking off the way I thought it would. It was definitely harder than I imagined.
I stayed at the credit union for the next 6 years and I knew I was not fulfilling my purpose in life. The hours, commute, amount of responsibility for the little pay, the boss that felt he ruled over all and the whopping 2 weeks vacation out of a whole year to do as I wish just wasn’t cutting it. I actually grew to despise it.
By this time my daughter was born and I had been thinking to myself maybe this whole home biz could really take off if I just put my head down and get to work. I knew I was going to find a way eventually.
But I was just failing miserably. Doing all the things we teach NOT to do. So of course I switched companies because that was definitely the problem (amateur). Funny thing about that is I was now just failing miserably with a different company.
Still struggling and hating my job I got an offer to be the “Account Manager” for this startup company that does buy back for used wireless equipment. This was a completely new field for me, but I was ready to do anything that didn’t involve banking. So I gave it a shot.
I actually fell in love with the job, but was not a fan of the people. Turns out I was actually good at what I was doing. I was able to increase revenue an additional 40K monthly in less than a year. It also helped me sharpen skills I didn’t know I had, like giving presentations. I love to sing, but seriously hated talking in front of a group of blue collars!
However, the more I did it, the more I started to like it.
The company took a downward spiral and I was laid off April of 2014. I was actually relieved. As much as I really liked the job and I was making pretty good money, I still knew there was something bigger in store for me. This was just a stepping stone.
At this point my son was born and had put my failing network marketing business on hold during that year. I decided I was gonna give school a shot. So I went for it and started studying to be a court reporter. I actually enjoyed it and I seem to have a knack for it, staying at the top of the class. I knew I could freelance as well, which was a plus.
However, I was going to have to start generating some income from somewhere while attending school, but I wasn’t sure how I was going to swing it. My unemployment was coming to an end and now being a wife and a mother of two I couldn’t just be an unemployed student. My husband is a very successful musician and does well, but living where we do, two incomes make life a lot easier to live.
I was looking on Facebook one day and something that stopped me in my tracks. I knew I had to find out more about it and reached out to the person who shared it. I told myself “I’m not joining this company. I am just going to ask her a couple of questions.” I was signed up by the end of the conversation. For some reason I couldn’t stay away from this industry even though I was constantly failing.
I felt more excited this time around like this was my shot to really give it my all. I am going to school, no job, just study and then put my head down and work.
I started to align myself with so many incredible leaders in the industry and became addicted to gaining the knowledge of how to truly create my dream income inside of my business leveraging social media.
I fell in love with what I was learning. Attraction marketing, video marketing you name it. I started investing in every course possible and discovered a passion for teaching others what I’ve learned.
My business completely took off. 7 months later I had a team of 1500 in 20 countries and had earned $10,000 just in bonuses. This was not including the residuals I was making in my sleep. I finally had a breakthrough! This was not the last of them either.
September 2015 my girl Melissa Swaney calls me and asks “Jen are you a Member of MLSP?” I told her no, but I’ve heard of it. She says “Why not? You already practice what they teach so you might as well get paid for it.” Made sense to me! It was a no brainer. I actually signed up that same day.
What I didn’t know is how much more I was going to learn and how many incredible people I was going to meet. How much more value I was going to be able to provide to people so they don’t have to struggle for 12 years like I did. That’s truly what I love is helping others discover their purpose and showing them how to use it to create their life by design.
So I encourage you to take a test drive and stick with MLSP no matter what. It’s truly the missing link you need to build whatever business you are building. I’ll tell you I was slow to get started, but I stuck with it and I never did it alone. And now to see my name on the leader boards with the very people who are where I want to be…crazy!
The amount of people I can truly help and make an impact on is now endless. It’s worth it to take the time and invest in yourself to become a person of value for others.
Oone thing that has truly helped me with my success. I am not afraid to ask for help and I am not afraid to ask for it from top earners. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people that are doing it best. That’s who you should be learning from. I don’t care if I think I am bugging them. They want to create success stories and I want to be a success story so we need each other.
I am grateful to be plugged in with some amazing people who stuck by me and believe in me. That is exactly what you need to do. Find the people you resonate with most, show them you’re serious and just soak up everything they teach you and apply it. If you need help, don’t be afraid to ask for it. Humble yourself and reach out to them. Sit next to the smartest kid in the class and do what they do.
I’ll tell you MLSP has changed my life and has helped me find my purpose. It’s not only given me breakthroughs in my business, but also as a person. What you can learn about yourself when you push yourself and do the uncomfortable, the unimaginable, it can blow your mind and will change your life.
Thank you for allowing me to share my story and I look forward to reading yours!
Jen Johnson
