If you talk to any successful network marketer, internet marketer, entrepreneur, etc., they will all tell you that there is no secret sauce to becoming successful. However, that is not necessarily true. There is one thing that you must have in order to be successful. This one thing can make or break you. It can discourage you when you have a setback. It can make you give up even before your journey has begun. But before I give you the secret, let me tell you a little story.
There was a young lady by the name of Laura. Every morning, she ran before she started her day. Every day she passed a fork on the road. She would always take the path on the left. But today she decided to be adventurous and take the path on the right. As she ran, she came across a vast lake. Laura was in awe. She looked upon the lake as the sun shimmered on the waves.
“The water looks so refreshing. I should take a swim,” she thought.
She removed her shirt and pants and dove right in. As she thought, the water was a refreshing start to her day. She swam and swam, enjoying the brisk air and cool water. Suddenly, her body began to feel heavy. Her arms felt like a ton of bricks. With each stroke, her body got weaker and weaker. She looked around and noticed she had strayed too far from the shore. There was no one in sight.
“I’m too far out. How am I going to get back? I’m all alone out here,” she thought.
She waded in the water; frantically hoping someone would come to her rescue. But no one was there. She was all alone. Her body became heavier and heavier. She felt herself sinking more and more in the water.
“Help! Someone, please help! I’ve swam too far out and I can’t get back to shore,” Laura said.
Then she heard a faint voice. “You can do it!”
“Who is that? Where is it coming from?” she wondered.
She looked toward the shore and saw a figure standing waving his hands.
“Please help! I’m so tired. I can’t swim anymore. I can’t make it back to shore,” Laura screamed.
“You can make it. You can do it. Just believe in yourself and you can make it back to shore,” the figure replied.
“No, you don’t understand. I swam too far out. I have no more strength. There is no way I can make it,” she screamed.
“I can’t help you. I can’t swim. I know you can do it. Just swim to me. I’ll stay right here,” the figure replied.
“Oh no, he can’t swim. I don’t know what I’m going to do. There’s no way I can make it. What am I going to do?” Laura wondered.
“Believe in yourself, you can do it,” the figure shouted.
“If I don’t do something, I’m going to drown,” Laura thought. “It’s all up to me. I have to make it. I have to get back to shore.”
She mustered up the last of her strength. She took a deep breath and dove under water. As she came up for air a sensation came over her. She felt reinvigorated. She had gotten a second wind. She felt the same way she felt when she first dove in the lake.
As she swam, the shore became closer and closer. The figure grew clearer and clearer. It was an older gentleman with smiling at her. When she reached the shore, she flopped down in exhaustion.
“I knew you could do it,” the man said.
“But how? How did you know that would work?” Laura asked.
“Because I was once in the same situation as you were in. I fell off a boat and my life preserver floated away from me. I had to swim to shore.” He replied.
“But I thought you couldn’t swim,” she said puzzled.
“No I can’t,” he laughed. “But when I fell in the water, I knew I had to do something. I didn’t know how to swim. So I knew I was going to drown. So I believed I was an Olympic swimmer racing for the gold. Because of that belief the impossible became possible. And I was able to swim back to shore. Whenever, I feel down or unsure of myself, I come back to this spot. It reminds me that believing in myself will help me accomplish anything.”
You see the single, most important thing every successful person must have is belief in themselves.
When you believe in yourself, extraordinary things happen. You find strength where you didn’t have before. You find solutions to the problems you are facing.
It’s belief in yourself that makes things happen, which makes goal happen. Belief oneself is what got Laura and man back to shore.
Because of belief in yourself, you will be willing to test, experiment, try new things and find solutions even when you are uncertain of the outcome.
How to Believe in Yourself
Below are a few exercises on how to believe in yourself.
• Believe that you deserve success
• Push past your discomfort
• Trust yourself
• Learn it’s ok to fail. Failure leads to success.
• You are stronger than you think. Give yourself permission to try again and again.
• Stop listening to toxic people
• Identify and ease your doubts
• Recall your successes
No one can make you successful. You have to believe that you are worth being successful. You have to believe that you are in charge of your destiny. And it is your destiny to be great, to be successful.
You have to believe in you. And once you do that, doors will begin to open for you.

Brian I can’t thank you enough for your email today. I won’t go into full detail about what’s going on but I read Laura’s story of not giving up and let’s say it’s exactly what this Mom needs. I have a meeting at my son’s school today as he’s Autistic I’ve been fighting for his and his younger brothers rights going on 7 years now. You invited me to join you on the fan page let’s say it’s time I figure out a way to get back all the way.
I have been teaching since 1990. My first rule is Always Believe In Yourself. The impact of this rule on my students has been amazing.
